“False Conviction” research trip

Work on the proposal for “False Conviction” is going really well. We recently attended the annual Innocence Network conference, where we met many people who have been incarcerated for crimes they didn’t commit and have been exonerated. It was fascinating, horrifying and very moving. As each exoneree was invited on stage one by one a clear pattern emerged… what’s wrong with this picture?!

Yup, they’re nearly all black. I would estimate that of the 100+ exonerees attending at least 80 were black males, which is a pretty damning statistic.

We also connected with the Innocence Project and several regional chapters, who are all very keen to help with the film, so we’re really encouraged as we’re about to begin our fundraising efforts. It’s a long road ahead but it’s worth it.
